APPLY NOWThis course is presented with sensitivity and care to insightfully teach students about a variety of abuse that they may encounter in their practice as PSW’s.
Students will identify 7 types and signs of abuse, relationships, and cycles of abuse as well as at-risk populations.
For this module, we created Augmented Reality and a variety of 3D models including:
- A full sized 3D woman with some typical signs and symptoms of abuse is used to help the learner develop observation skills and how the different types of abuse present differently. Several videos and PDFs supplement this lesson for the learner to explore this sensitive topic before doing the quiz questions on each type of abuse such as neglect, financial, sexual, elder, emotional, and physical.
- A 3D bust of a man is used for the lesson on the cycle of abuse. The man can be seen as charming, sneering, calm, or accusatory depending on the angle the learner is looking at him. This is important to demonstrate that not all abusers look like abusers.
For Virtual Reality we created a multi-person virtual role-play the following:
We created a virtual experience that allows the instructor, the student, and observers into a virtual home setting to experience scenarios about interviewing an abused person in real time. Students can enter into this virtual home from any location in Ontario through their VR headsets. All observers can communicate with the participants and the participants can interact with each other and the environment.
