APPLY NOWIn this course the learner will be exposed to all aspects of safety for a support worker, home safety, fire safety, and caregiver safety. The safety of the client is critical when working with the vulnerable sector. The goal of this course is to anticipate the needs of each client and reduce the risk of harm or injury. The use of the three types of restraints are discussed and defined.
The proper use of body mechanics for everyday tasks and while moving others is demonstrated and assessed. The complications associated with bed rest are discussed and the progression of pressure injuries are focused on. The learner will be exposed to the language, techniques, and benefits of range of motion exercise. Safety affects us all.

You will explore why some people are more at risk than others of accidents and how you can prevent them. You will learn how to keep yourself safe while working in a variety of environments, performing physically demanding skills, and with a variety of clients.
You will get to explore the various types of mobility devices and how to use them safely. You will be asked to perform and describe several actions needed for range of motion. All of this while being coached by experienced nurses and utilizing different types of media and learning tools.

Technical Specs: Our hybrid classes offer an online experience utilizing Augmented Reality, 3D Models, Videos and Virtual Simulation. A desktop or laptop is recommended. VR Goggles are welcomed for a full, richer experience. If you do not have VR Goggles, you can complete the tasks on a laptop or a desktop. IBT College provides technical support.

- Mature student ,18 years or older.
- IELTS 6.0 (B2) or equivalent *

Certificate: Upon successful completion of the program you will receive an IBT College Dementia Care Certificate. A Dementia Care Certificate is in-demand now by many employers seeking Home Support Workers and Personal Support Workers in Ontario. It is a strongly recommended to upgrade your skills in this area.
