Accommodations
The search for a place to live should be one of your priorities once you have received your study permit. We strongly encourage all students to search for housing as early as possible and even consider taking up residence two to three weeks prior to classes starting so you have some time to settle before classes begin.
We’ve recently partnered with Places4Students Inc. to provide an online collection of numerous housing options.
Places4Students provides students, schools and landlords with the highest quality, off-campus housing service. This large real-time database is for student housing vacancies in our area, including photos and text, contact information and property features.

Toronto is Canada’s largest city and one of the most multicultural cities in the world. International students are moving in and out every day, and there is a large selection of very useful websites that will help you find accommodation in Toronto. Please see the list:
IMPORTANT: IBT College Business Travel and Tourism Technology is sharing the most common websites to find accommodation in Toronto, but we do not have any contract with those companies or provide rent services to the student.
Transit
The public transit system in Toronto is called the Toronto Transit Commission or “TTC” as we all call it here.
The TTC includes three methods of Transportation:
- Subway
- Bus
- Streetcar
The cost of a single ride in any of the options is $3.25 but if instead of paying cash every time you use it, you buy a “PRESTO” card, you will get some important discounts.
PRESTO is a debit card that you buy for $6 at any transit station and once you activate it, you can upload funds on it. By paying with it, automatically the cost per trip is lower.
In addition to the regular discount, the TTC allows you to register as student, using your student card and buy a monthly pass. The monthly pass is uploaded on your PRESTO and as a result, you obtain an additional $20 off on your monthly expenses.
We strongly recommend that you use PRESTO.
Health Insurance
International students are not covered under Ontario health care plans and, because of that, you must purchase a private medical insurance.You can purchase a plan in your home country or directly from a Canadian company. The average price for one-year coverage can range from CAD$35 to CAD$75 per month.
